We all are aware of the probabilistic Damage Analysis given in the SOLAS rules for ocean going ships. Applying the same method of calculating the Required and Attained Subdivision index on Small crafts is not suitable. ISO 12217 rules governing the Stability and Buoyancy Assessment of Small Crafts of Sail and Non Sail types are also limited to only Intact conditions of Operation. Here I feel a need of discussing it in this forum that what kind of approach should be followed for Damage Stability Assessment of Small Crafts.

Basically, for small crafts damage stability is not significant because they travel in areas where land is closeby.
The main concept of damage stability is for ocean going vessels to be able to reach nearest coast or survive till further help is available.
Since, for small crafts, the life saving appliances may in most cases serve the same purpose due to the proximity to land, there are no guidleines available for damage stability.
Thus for such crafts it is limited to intact stability.
